"Baggy corduroys with worn patches; faded short-sleeve shirts; dingy, threadbare jumpers and exploding trainers. Glance at most older men in the High Street and this is what you will see."

Mr Cake does all his own clothes shopping and it could never be said that this description applied to him. If I do have one gripe about the wardrobe of middle-aged men it is the wearing of sports wear when they haven't seen a gym or athletics track in 40yrs.

So, does the sweeping generalisation of middle-aged male fashion resonate with you?

Not at all Redman dresses quite nicely and appropriately ... Never wears trainers and the nearest thing to sportswear is a liverpool sweatshirt I have never seen him wear.
I am nothing like that description .
I love my Long Johns and Corduroy Farmers Pants otherwise Shaun the Sheep would disown me ;-)
Forgot to say he does like his wellies though
EC, you could same about the sports gear worn by the younger generation. They slob around in the trackie bottoms and designer trainers with their poor staffies in tow. Couldn't run or jump to save their lives.
Personlly I'm always in the height of fashion for my age, down to the curlers in my hair, covered by a headscarf of course when shopping!
Nope, doesn't describe Himself at all, infact I don't think I've seen anyone in a pair of corduroys since the 80's. I wonder wh High Street she walks down?

You are right Maggie, I loathe seeing anyone wearing sports wear when they are not on the way to doing it, actually doing it or on their way home from doing it. And necking 8 pints of lager is not sport in my book.
Not at all but he's only 40. His problem is dressing like a 14 year old - baggy skateboard shorts and t-shirts or rockabilly jeans and tucked in t-shirts (eeeuwww)
i don;t think i know anyone who dresses like this, i do see a few older dudes rocking the suit trousers with trainers look
Oh yes, definitely.
yes i could "see" snags in the cords and dingy jumper
No, I have to say Mr Frog is pretty well turned out and chooses his own clothes, mainly from Next or Fat Face. Although his work gear usually is covered in mud and grass stains, full of holes and stinks to high heaven.
It doesn't describe me, I'm a boots, jeans, shirt, leather jacket kind of bloke, I do wear trainers sometimes though!

You've made an equally valid point their Prudie, the Peter Pan's of middle aged male fashion........

I have to admit to an irrational hatred of men in cropped trousers, I don't know what it is but I really don't like it.
No redman smart casual trousers toning polo shirt or short sleeved shirt comfy leather shoes and a decent jacket I'm the scruff at times

What about cargo pants, yes or no? Not short ones of course.
Does not describe Mr Alba at all.

Blooming DM typical bunkum. They took one look at their editor and thought 'hmmmmm'
Question Author
Tambo, not sure I share your view of masculine....

D97, yes on holiday, BBQs etc...

Alba, totally agree. You really wouldn't want to P-off the editorial team at the DM!
