Thinking on getting one of these:

Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation

For my son for Christmas - he is very interested in technical drawing as well as art in general.

does anyone know if they are any good or can suggest a better one for around the same price or a bit more?

It looks to me like a good beginners model and not either so cheapo that it must be sh1te or mega-bucks major investment. A good starter's model. If he is at all involved with digital arty stuff you'll never get him back on a mouse. But it would be better to be able to have a go on it before buying.
The bamboo gets very good write ups. I use a wacom but its an old model because the bamboos used to cost too much for me to afford. I might look again now the price has come down.

Thanks Both - looks like that is on the list then :)

You don't happen to know anything about technical drawing boards do you? That is what else he has on his list together with some large set squares....well, it makes a change from computer games!

If you do a google search on technical drawing boards you'll see the range and options - not something I've used, though. An old atlas and some masking tape works for me......
Annie I was answering another post and this came up - I think you're son might find it interesting to have a go with, it's a program called Revelation Natural Art:

I have a bamboo and I think it works well. I don't know about tech drawing but for graphic art it's much better than trying to draw with a mouse.

Thanks Mosaic that looks very interesting - I'll do a bit more investigating later. I thought I had found the ideal drawing board as it was a student package with the set squares and things he wanted too - apparently it's no good though as he is insistent that the one he gets must raise and lower on an angle!! Literally back to the drawing board!!!

Thanks rattyrat - that sounds good - he has also listed a gaming mouse so I guess he is not intending to move away from the mouse entirely.
