i am seriously beginning to dread any company that delivers by hermes - are they an actual firm, or just a group of unwashed, illiterate individuals who keep your parcel for 3 days, so you are pathetically grateful when it finally does turn up?

The couriers who deliver to me are all pretty good.

hermes woofy?
they are lowly paid and exhausted!

pls be glad if anything arrives!
No, they're not rubbish, they're poorly paid and have to work to impossible schedules and then get the sack for failing as the posts are easy to fill from the enormous unemployed pool this Government so delights in creating for this very reason, cheap labour.

yes hermes amongst others. I have a very nice local Hermes lady and when things get busy then a bloke in a white van delivers as well. Both very nice, efficient and helpful.
No, they are not all rubbish. DPD I have always found to be excellent.
Unless you pay a premium most courier companies won't have a 24hr turnaround. Instead the courier company may sit on your parcel until it can be done on a multi-drop to other houses in your locality. The driver doesn't decide this. If doing a multidrop within a small radius he may be paid £3-£4 a drop if he is self employed. If a same day drop over a longer distance he may be paid £100 for going from London to Manchester and there are many overheads to take out of this.
The Hermes chap who delivers to me uses his own car, so I guess he's self employed with a quota. It's Yodel (who have their own vans) that I've heard bad press about - but they delivered a package to me on Saturday afternoon ok.
I must say I haven't had a problem with them. :-)
A neighbour of mine used to work for Hermes, they worked very hard, only getting £1 a parcel delivered & sometimes having to work late into the evening & pay their own petrol, its not as easy as it looks.
I live in a small rural area so we regularly get the same delivery people. They are all friendly, helpful and quick with delivery.
