E-Bay - New Fees

Those of you who sell on eBay - did you see this announcement a couple of days ago?

Final value fees change for all private sellers

Final value fees will be charged based on the combined value of the item listed plus postage. For example, if an item sells for £20 with postage cost of £4, the final value fee will be charged based on the combined value of £24. This will not apply if the listing offers collection only.


This is a swizz - we can't help how much postage is - why should we pay fees on top as well?

Probably to stop sellers charging 1p for an item and £30 postage.

can you not put item on for £24 instead of£20 and then do free p/p instead

Perhaps EBay thinks that some sellers are making on the postage and want to get in on the act. I think the fees are getting out of hand, EBay has lost it's appeal.

It's still 10%, stylax, it's adding in the postage to the final value which is p'ing me off.

If ebay are going to take money off the postage cost then by me either the postage cost will have to go up to cover it, or the starting price will have to go up to cover it.....

Trouble is - if you charge the customer say £10 for something which actually costs you £6 for P&P, you'll get poor feedback on your P&P ratings... dammit.

Isn't eBay a business, and can't it alter it's terms? You can choose not to use it....I never have.

Yes, GB, of course they can - but those of us who have been buying and selling on eBay for years find this a sharp practice.

mazie, eddie commented last night that he's tried other sites, nothing sells as well as on eBay. I sell on Amazon too, but never as well as on eBay.
