oh yes wine they do some good reds
Be prepared to feel rushed - you are expected to shove your stuff back into your trolley, pay and then bag it all up in a designated area. If you try to bag it up as you go along you will get huffed and puffed at (it's the price you pay for lower prices).
I've been impressed with the tinned toms.
Which? mag approves their dishwasher tabs.
In-laws swear by the jams and juice.
Smoked salmon and cured meats seem to get good write ups.
I can't recall any disappointments with the wine but after the second bottle I'm rarely disappointed ...... ;-)
is it in hertfordshire as i was visiting my mum and saw an aldis was just opening

Oh wow! It sounds a really good shop. What are the best tea bags to buy? Are their own make ones any good?
Our local Aldi did such poor trade that it closed down!

However I've rarely found anything that I want in either Aldi or Lidl to be much cheaper (if at all) than in Asda. If I go into either store it will mainly be for their non-food weekly offers. (e.g. I'll probably be buying an oil-filled radiator, with built-in fan heater, from Lidl on Monday).

Both Aldi and Lidl do have some really good wines though, plus some cheap beers and spirits, so I tend to visit at least one of them in the run up to Christmas.

No Mally. I live on the outskirts of Clacton-on-sea on the south east coast.
Lidl's olive oil and champagne are excellent, also luxury ginger cookies, lobster, and californian walnuts.
The tea bags in the gold box are the ones I buy, they've won some sort of award.
Chopped tinned tomatoes
Long life milk
Champagne
Drawstring bin bags
Kitchen roll
Tissues
Flowers
Smoked salmon
Low fat Greek yoghurt
Ground white pepper/sea salt
just be aware they don't hang around at the checkout ,they like you to put you shopping back introlley and pack it at shelves after you have paid but i just lay my bags ready in trolley andpack shopping as its scanned
I wasn't particularly impressed on my one visit to Aldi. I only went in because I was close by and I only wanted a few things for a particular recipe. They didn't have shallots - there's no call for them apparently! That as enough for me. My friend however, thinks its a fantastic shop.
washing powder
washing up liquid
Their Lacuna make up is really good, and soooo cheap
In the chiller cabinet - frikkadellen, cheesy potatoes, sausages, smoked salmon

wait until Christmas and the 4 bird roast and the salmon and all the other goodies come out - they were selling gingerbread houses yesterday!
barmaid - I agree to a certain extent, I don't do all my shopping there - but i know what I CAN get there and it's always extremely good. Their special offer stuff is brilliant too, but you have to get there early or it's all gone whoosh. This week's offering is baking trays etc.
^ why did I say barmaid? - sorry horseshoes.... :-)
