I've have had a hotpoint Nextra7 for about 6 or 7 years now. I really like it as it has a 7kg drum and 1600 spin speed, but unfortunately it seems to be giving up the ghost and isn't spinning as it should. Has anyone any suggestions as to what is a good buy. Thanks.

I have had my miele washing machine for 16 years, no problems, no call outs. It is in constant usage ,almost daily what with sweaty running gear
gym gear +the usual laundry.I. would not buy any other make . I do keep my fingers crossed now becos it is so old. more pricey than many but worth it.

Miele are the "Best Brand" for washing-machines, followed by Bosch and John Lewis: worst brands are Hotpoint, whirlpool and Hoover (latest Which? report). We have Miele...brilliant extremely quiet and 10-year warranty....but it WAS pricey!
Only one brand to go for 'Bosch'...Try one of these maybe have a look at the videos too...

When my washer didn't spin very well it turned out to be the brushes. Replaced them and problem solved.
In case it is the brushes, don't delay checking them out because then you may do serious damage to an otherwise good motor. If it is the brushes then the cost of replacing them is about the cheapest possible repair to a washing machine. We have a Hotpoint that is now in excess of 20 years old and has needed some nursing along the way, but still cheaper than replacing it every 5 years or so. I think I would not buy Hotpoint again but instead something that can genuinely be expected to last trouble free, 15-20 years is not too much to ask for and entirely possible but not common because of price competition (cheaper machine, less robust) and overall manufacturing policy. One of the biggest weakness is the electronics now built into these machines - when anything fails you need to replace not just that little component but the whole package it is fitted into - much the same with modern central heating boilers.
I like Miele or Bosch

anyway if you are in the South for chrissakes make sure the new one floats
I've got a Miele and I love it, they do cost though.
Depends on what you want - I've a Miele too and it's lasted 10 years without missing a beat - they are designed to last - they aim for 20 years.

However you might well get 2-3 Hotpoints for the price that would last that long too!

I'd watch out for Bosch - some of the cheaper ones in the range are made in places like Spain and aren't as well made but are still expensive.

I'd either go Miele if you can afford it or just go cheap and accept that it'll need replacing in another 6-7 years.

Not sure I see the point in mid range
Not quite that simple though....the Miele will have excellent performance and will give no trouble. The Hotpoint/Hoover will be mediocre and give plenty of trouble...statistically speaking.
