They're Ray Ban with clear lenses. Apart from posting in the lost and found on Gumtree(which I don't hold out much hope for) and a card in the window of the local newsagents what more could I do to return them to their owner?

walk round Belfast wearing them with a bill board saying "I am Lost. Reclaim me"
Post a card in the newsagents but don't give a description. If the real owner contacts you, they'll be able to say that they're Ray Bans with clear lenses and you'll know that they're telling the truth.
I think that's as much effort as anyone would expect.

I suppose you could phone the local police and give them your name and number in case someone does look for them.

My uncle has a pair of Ray Ban's from his army days. They are a bit sentimental to him so someone might be hoping they are handed in.

Do the police still take lost property?
I wouldn't want to do as you suggest, Retro. My niece might try to invoke the power of attorney I signed some time ago and have me put away.
Police still take lost property Sandy, but doubt if the police station would be anyone's first port of call. You would probably get them back in 3 months. Think you're doing as much as can be expected.
As far as I know they do. Giving your details should be enough though.
Sandy
Seriously. Are they actually Ray Ban glasses or ordinary reading glasses in a Rayban case. I may be wrong but Rayban make sun glasses don't they unless these are polychromatic or whatever they call them.Change colour according to glare.
I thought a Rayban was a stove, something like an Aga:)
Do nowt....they obviously belong to some poser, if they've got clear lenses ;)

Retro - maybe someone got lenses put into Ray Ban frames.
Oh, ignore me....I took clear lenses to mean no precription,..but obviously sandy meant not sunglasses ... sorry ;)

Here they are. I think glasses can be fairly expensive so I'd like to see them returned.
ummm
Quite possible.I don't think you can do much more than has been advised Sandy.
If they are real Ray Bans they'd have cost quite a lot of money.

I thought of an ad in a newspaper. But here there are Catholic and Protestant papers so I'd need two.
Sandy...very noble of you but taking time to try and reunite them with their owner is enough. Don't spend money on it.
I think you've done enough, but it depends where you found them; e.g. if on a bus, contact the bus company L&F, but I expect you've got that aspect covered.
These are possibly Ray Bans but fromhe Luxottica Company who bought Ray Ban from the original Bausch & Lomb inventor in 1999. The Luxxotica made glasses (based in Italy) also make most of the other leading brands of the day... Vogue, Oakley, Ralph Lauren, etc.

For several years after buying Ray Ban the quality suffered a great deal and still haven't come back to where B&L left them...

I wouldn't be surprised if these are simple reading glasses with avery low correction... maybe 1.50 or so.

I buy and sell a lot of vintage Ray Bans (all B&L) on Ebay and this is may say Ray Ban someplace but don't confuse them with the real thing...
try them on sandy, bet you look very posh in them :)
I have seen Ray Ban glasses on the Vision Express site.

Someone has mentioned Belfast, you could try ringing them (it that is the location) and
asking if they know of anyone who has lost their glasses recently?

Were they in a case? & is there a style code on the arm/s?
