New Beko Freezer

I went into the garage today to find my new Beko freezer covered in condensation. I wiped it off and then rang the customer service phone line. The chap there tried to tell me that it was because it's so warm, the warm air is condensing on the outside of the freezer. I think that's a load of rubbish and said as much.

Anyway, an engineer is going to call. If it's a manufacturing fault, then it will be fixed. If not, we will have to pay a call-out charge and a fixing fee.

The door of the freezer is really cold. Should the outside of the freezer feel cold?

Well, the inside of a freezer is very cold and the outside surface is usually quite cold....and the air at the moment is warm and moist....so you can expect condensation on the ouside surfaces of a freezer situated in a garage. Sorry!

In that condensation on a freezer has nothing to do with its service condition, the manufacturer/seller is entirely correct. The freezer being in the garage, which I assume is not heated, what you are observing can easily happen at times when atmospheric humidity is high. In all probability the ambient conditions are very close to identical to the outdoors plus the inside of the garage is effectively trapped air. If the atmosphere is humid or even approaching dew point then you will get evidence of humidity (e.g. traces of rust) anywhere within the garage.

So, should the outside of the freezer feel really cold? If you had a freezer in the house, would it feel cold to the touch?

Tilly...as KARL has said, conditions are ideal at the moment....very mild and lots of moisture....for condensation. In Summer, it'll be warm but not nearly so moist....so shouldn't be evident.
I have a chest freezer in the garage, and it gets condensation on the top (the coldest part) at certain times. None on the sides because they are warmer.

Just been and put my hand on our Beko freezer in the kitchen, Yilly. It's no colder than the outside of the Beko fridge.

I am no good with anything technical, all I can tell you is my Beko freezer has been in the garage for 12 months and I have not experienced any condensation.
Neither is the outside cold to the touch.

Tilly, my freezer in the detached garage is covered in condensation. Humid air meeting colder surface. Not to worry.

Tilly, just been out to our Electrolux freezer in the garage, and, yes it has a lot of condensation on it. It has been 13/14 degrees here today, sunny and warm, amazing.

My freezer in the garage often has condensation on it. I certainly don't spend time wiping it off - what's the point?!

I've just got a new chest freezer (indoors but in a room with no heating) and its not cold to touch and no condensation.

The freezer is fine this morning. I am beginning to suspect that the door wasn't closed properly and that's what caused the problem.

Hi Tilly,
I have a beko fridge freezer in my conservatory (widely ranging temperatures)
occasionaly I have to give the freezer section a wipe, to get rid of condensation, especially if the windows have been closed.
I'm no expert, but I just put it down to varying humidity.

I just checked my fridge, this morning and its one of those days when it needs a wipe over with some kitchen roll.

This happens to mine, not all the time just occasionally. It always seems to be the side that is nearest the door so it may improve if you move it further away from door.

Another possible solution is if you have a Savers Shop near you they do a small dehumidifier tub I think the product is called dehumidifier 151. It costs around 90p if it lasts a few weeks it maybe worth getting.
