Smokers - New Measures From 21/05/17
27 Answers
From May 21, all packaging will be plain and every pack of cigarettes will be a shade of green.
It will no longer be possible to buy smaller packs of cigarettes.
You won’t be able to buy bags of rolling tobacco weighing less than 30g.
The cheapest pack of cigarettes on sale will cost £8.82.
Menthol cigarettes are also being phased out along with fruit, candy, spice, herb, alcohol and vanilla flavoured tobacco – but they won’t be banned until May 2020.
Fancy that! I am getting in extra stock now. My dear, local newsagents
gets my brand in for me especially. I have upped the order for the next couple of weeks ;)

If menthol cigarettes are being banned by 2020 I better start looking for a dodgy supplier, undoubtedly they will still be available. I wonder how you dogooders think the lost tax revenue will be replaced.

Anything that discourages children from starting smoking is to be encouraged. The current smokers are for the most part a lost cause, nothing will stop them short of death.
Every smoker I have ever known started at age 12 to 17 , never heard anyone who starting after their teens.
These measures are designed to make tobacco less 'glamorous' and 'attractive' for youngsters and stop them starting to smoke.
I would go further and ban even the brand name and makers name , just packing them as 'Cigarettes' ,'rolling tobacco' or 'pipe tobacco'
Manufactures would soon stop bothering to produce them.

As a shopworker I cannot begin to tell you what a pain this is.
Not only are the fags behind shutters (so you've try to memorise which shutter to open) the cigarettes packs themselves all look exactly the same. I'm just now getting to know where the 'popular' brands are on the shelves, but if someone asks for something that's not a good seller i'm goosed, takes me ruddy ages looking for them.
Hate it!

My mother was virulently anti-smoking. My father was banished to the kitchen if he wanted a smoke and I, who have smoked for the past 54 years, was in serious trouble if caught. At the age of 54 she suddenly took up the habit. Within a few weeks she was hooked. I thought I was a heavy smoker but she could smoke for England. 40 a day was no bother for her.
