how much did your wedding dress cost?

Mine was £10.00 in the sale. (1978)
I still have it and it just about fits, if I breathe in. :-)

no idea....my mother made it for me and a matching dress for my 7 week old bridesmaid
We got married in jeans. 40 years ago.
My last one (2 years ago) was £650
Mine was £18 from a very posh Bridal shop in Central Manchester in 1968.
Question Author
Were they white jeans, Sam?
My best friend made mine, I paid £8 for the material (slub silk if I remember correctly, well it was 1966!) very plain with a little train, she did a beautiful job.
Question Author
Do you all still have the dress/jeans?
Yes, I have still got the dress and my cake ornaments and telegrams and cards. My bridesmaid has still got her dress and the silver bracelet we got her for a bridesmaid gift. I don’t keep it because it was my wedding dress but because my mother made it.
LOL Tilly. No I didn't keep them, I probably couldn't get them past my knees now ! My SIL wanted us to have a traditional Japanese " re vow" ceremony in kimonos etc. but Mr. Sam nearly choked on his sake.
Question Author
I can understand that, Woof. I have kept clothes that my mum bought for me. She wasn't a dressmaker.
Wish I still had my wedding dress as looking at the photo's now, I think it has stood the test of time, but there is absolutely no way that it would still fit me! Like woofgang, I have the album, cards, telegrams and wedding ornaments.
Question Author
That's a shame, Sam. Kimonos would have been wonderful, but expensive, I would guess.
SIL has a few Tilly, you are right, they are really really expensive. But Mr Sam would never ever do anything like that. Romantic he ain't.
Question Author
Yes, I still have all the bits and bobs. The white sandals look so dated now! Platform soles.
Question Author
Never mind, Sam.
It's so long ago...and did it twice. Both were ordinary,off-the-peg dresses.
The first was a pseudo renaissance style...cream with embroidered floral trim. I had flowers in my hair of course. It was $35 or so.
The second was a silk day dress...probably about $65...that's 30+years ago. I still have it...somewhere.
Question Author
Flowers in the hair were obligatory in the seventies, Pasta. :-)
When I married Mr Smow(and wasn't my first wedding lol) it was 8 yrs ago and cost £240 in a wedding dress sale. Looking at photos I don't even like it or think it suited me. I didn't have much confidence then , and am very different now and would pick something completely different if I went shopping today.
£499 in 1997 - quite a bargain if I remember rightly.
I wore a lovely black outfit with a midnight blue velvet long jacket...had already worn it to a few parties etc so it cost me little (still wearing it from time to time tho the parties are fewer these days). Pointless paying out for an outfit that may only be worn once imo.
