We went to a well known café that we always use today, I had a simple fry & so did my wife, I drink black Coffee my wife tea, her tea came in a little tea pot and she poured, I noticed the spout was looking dirty & opened the lid, the rim was black & the inside a very dark colour, the waitress came to collect the empty plated & I said, the tea pot was a disgrace, it bleached & in this condition should not have been used, my wife was not pleased by what I'd said, s I right?

My mother would never wash out the teapot - all it got was a rinse. She said the tannin(?) needed to build up to get a decent cup of tea.

No your wife is correct, I would not have made a fuss over a tea pot, tea pots stain and if you keep bleaching them, they eventually lose all the taste and it just becomes a bleach taste!

We don't have tea in this house....but isn't it a fact that the tannin in tea discolours everything it touches - so the inside of any tea-pot is going to look black/discoloured?

Not sure what you are objecting to. Tena has tannin, tannin stains, it is not poisonous.

It's not the case of upsetting the staff Quoi, in my own opinion the pot should not have been used as the inner rim was black.

I would expect that with a teapot only used for tea. As long as the cups etc were clean.

I'm sure I can tell the Difference in a pot that's been used with stains to a pot that in my opinion has not had a Deep Clean.

I agree TWR, the pots should be buffed inside and out than placed in a display cabinet or all right-thinking folk to admire.

The problem could be easily solved by pre-rinsing the teabags to get rid of that nasty brown mess they make.
