I have received an offer for a item I have advertised on Gumtree. The enquirer is suggesting payment by pay pal and requires my bank details.
Is this safe to give him my bank details so he can credit my account?

Thank you

No..I wouldn't give anyone my bank details..
I would steer clear.

Sounds decidedly dodgy to me.
Set up a paypal account to receive it?
The idea of Pay pal is that individuals/companies DON'T need your details at all. Pay pal has all the info and they do the work....but you do need a Pay pal account yourself (I find it invaluable). If you don't have one, then open one.....but I wouldn't give this individual any info. relating to my bank account.
....in fact (thinking a bit more about it), I'm not sure he could pay by Pay pal unless you have an account yourself with them...
As already stated he doesn't need your bank details to pay by PayPal so there seems to be something dodgy there.

Having said that I don't worry about giving my bank details out - after all, if he paid by cheque you'd have his sort code, account number and signature.

Many thanks. This gumtree seems to attract strange texts and email address. Does make one very wary
I sold a mobile phone on Gumtree, within two hours of listing it.
The chap came straight away to buy it, I think he was a drug dealer.
Sat outside my house in his car with heavily tinted windows, sent me a text to say he was outside and wound down his window just enough to get his hand through with the cash.
I did take a note of his registration number - can never be too careful
The entire idea of Paypal is that you DO NOT need to give any bank details. The Paypal address alone is all that is needed for payment.
NO.
