Why Is France's Price Cap Equivalent Half Of Ours?

Some food for thought...we are the most expensive European country bar the Czech republic, we are being absolutely shafted, the price cap is twice as expensive as France (they own 85% of EDF, a main energy provider in the UK) , why is this? The government should be explaining why a foreign company charges us twice us much for our energy than their own one.

As I thought that I'd explained on your earlier thread, Barney, the rapid rise in electricity prices in the UK is largely driven by the steep climb in the wholesale price of gas. Countries that don't use a great deal of gas to generate electricity are therefore far better protected against the impacts of such price rises than we are.

The UK generates 35% of its electricity from fossil fuels, whereas France only generates 7% of its electricity from fossil fuels. 49% of France's electricity is derived from hydropower, which won't be affected by rising gas prices, whereas only 2% of our energy comes from hydropower.

Energy companies should have diversified their power generation sources ages ago. Such lack of foresight is unacceptable by the management and to an extent, the owners. So how do we get rid of them and install management that has the UK's interest at heart ?

Our problem is we've been listening to the green warriors too much, thank them. We need to get back into mass nuclear power generation ASAP.

The UK should have been 80% nuclear power before the turn of the last century. Totally short sighted.

I know dave, what I don't understand though is that the eco warriors should love nuclear power, it's the opposite of what they hate, fossil fuels.

Because they use the £squilions we send for border protection purposes to subsudise the energy bills of the people instead?

Yes, there is a good amount of subsidy going on.

Of course all that means is the tax payer will have to pay that, so all its doing is kicking the can down the road.

It's not just the Nuclear either.

We are sat on huge reserves of energy, North Sea, Fracking fields and loads of coal.

Most of the UK's problems are down to people like the Prime Ministers wife and the headcase net zero in such an aggressive timeline.
