Why do a lot of these large shops insist on normal trading on Sundays?Its as if nothing is sacred.I don't necessarily mean for religious reasons,though that is important for some people.I mean that there should be,at least,one statutory rest day for workers.

I noticed also,over the Christmas period,that some stores were open on Boxing day for goodness sake...Is there no end to corporate greed?

Funkyrich, i would have thought that the reason for being open is demand? (a bit of greed maybe!).

Because i work all week i love that i can shop on a Sunday or at 2 in the morning in my slipper and leave my Saturdays free, and having a local supermarket open ment i didn�t run out of bread for those extra Turkey butties on boxing day!

The company i work for is open 24/7 365, our weekly working hours are restricted by law but we can work overtime if we choose.

As for a statutory day off i�d hate it!!! It�d be the busiest day of the week!! An entire nation trying to find something to do that doesn�t involve someone else working to entertain!!! May do wonders for the family group but i sure monopoly would soon become a tad tedious!!

I love the flexibility of shopping when I choose. For years I worked in the NHS when we had to be 'open all hours' to fit in the day to day lives of everyone, why should superstores not be the same?

I'm pretty sure its not compulsary for the workers in these shops to work on Sundays, if they do then they probably get a day off in the week instead. Lets face it Sundays are pretty boring so if nobody is being exploited then open the shops I say.

As to the people who wish to keep Sunday special, well good for them, they can keep it special all by themselves at home. I however, will be keeping it special at the shopping mall.

I agree with corporate greed. You wouldn't see any director or company boss working on a sunday or on bloody Boxing Day. I think the real people in retail should be protected from working on Boxing Day. The greedy bigwigs don't care but it's about time the government did.

Corporate greed or not - nobody forces anyone to go to the shops on Sunday. People choose what they want to do, and if shopping on Sunday suitd them, then that's great.

I also don`t think we need Sunday opening. A lot of supermarkets open until 8pm or later anyway also the D.I.Y stores are the same. Surely there`s enough hours there as it is. We all have fridges & freezers nowadays also. How did we manage years ago???? beejaybee
