My son and his family were invited to a wedding. Being a bit strapped for cash, my daughter-in-law bought a very stylish dress from a charity shop for £8. It still had the labels on and obviously had never been worn. Wore it for one day then put it on Marketplace for £25. It was quickly snapped up.

Mate of mine runs a clothes and accessories collection business, highly-coloured bins in the likes of garages, schools, village halls etc etc, He has a picking team of some ten folk and what comes out of them is remarkable - never mind Tui and FF etc, there are designer pieces with the tags still on - he then on-sells to the London area and for overseas......It's just incredible what folk throw out.
Oxfam sell clothes online (as well as books, music etc) and they have regular sales. The last sale was selling things at 60% off.

Much of the clothing is unused or in very good condition.

Some of it is designer gear and some of that is hideous.

Years ago I knew a couple than ran a second hand ladies' clothing in a very out of the way place. They never came across as flash or well off when they were in their shop but went on two or more cruises every year, when cruising wasn't cheap, and had a fabulous house.
I could never work out how their business made so much money, I knew them for years before they let me in on their secret.

They made most of their money during the evenings, when the surrounding units were closed, selling to men who liked to wear ladies clothes. They specialised in large sized shoes and made the evenings convivial. I should think the internet is a boon for men that way inclined.
That’s great Maggie, too many people put too much emphasis on buying a new outfit for every blooming occasion.
I have two outfits which I wear for things like weddings or special parties, I don’t care who’s seen them on me before, I feel comfortable and look ok. And I have one pair of heeled shoes.
Old friend bought her wedding dress in the thrifty for 10 pounds
There's a local hospice that has 2 shops in town. Only very good quality clothing, all in pristine condition. Their windows often feature special occasion wear...it's currently bridal gowns. A large section of the shop is dedicated to this. The place is always jammed and their prices are not super low...still bargains to be had.
