More from Octobers issue: All are Scottish words, terms or slang and also could also be regional Scottish terms or variations only used in specific geographical areas. Due to difficulty and often many variations of spelling, some of my adjoining letters might be in error.

45d. Keep (hold of) (5) H?E?D

 

7d. Far side of the path (4,3) B??E ??E (although first letter could also be D).

 

37a. One in charge (4,11) ??I? ?I????A?K?S

(probably HEID ?I????A?K?S)

Would never have got that without your suggestion......... but after more research I've refined it to CAPERNOITIE, and that means 10d CHAPPIT TATTIES can still be correct.

GRANNIEPREEN looks good. Same old problem though as that means 6d Disapproving look (4,6) must be  wrong. I had DOON LOOKIT - But now it just D??N ?E??I?

John, keek is a Scottish word meaning 'look', a keeker is a black eye, a keekin glass is a mirror and so on. I can't find confirmation, but maybe the answer is Doon Keekit or something similar?
