Recordable DVD player
4 Answers
My father is hard of hearing & currently uses a VCR that tapes subtitles during normal recording (this is not avaiable on many VCR's).
The VCR is on it's last legs & cannot be repaired or a replacement found. He is looking to buy a DVD recorder that can record subtitles also. Can anyone tell me if their model does so & if so what it is?
Thanks

It's got a built-in Freeview tuner and can record digital subtitles from all channels which transmit them. It costs 129.25 from the Royal National Institute for the Deaf:

Unfortunately, I don't think you'll find a DVD recorder which records subtitles from analogue TV. This site says it's not possible:

Following the links from that site, there seems to be only one option and it's certainly not cheap. If you buy any basic VHS recorder - they're not much more than about 30 these days - you can use an add-on box which permits recording of the '888' teletext subtitles. The only problem is that the box costs 240.45 (probably plus VAT if your father's not registered as deaf).
