Does anyone know why the diagonal stripes on a U.K tie are different to the American ones.i.e;
The stripes on a British one run from top right to bottom left and the American ones run from top left to bottom right as you face them.

Well Pickle,
I seem to remember some years ago it was mentioned on the radio. I think I will have to watch a States detective film to check it out , as you have raised a doubt in my mind now.
I found this by googling: "The tradition was started by the British armed forces choosing to set their stripe over the left shoulder. To be different than their British counterparts, the Americans had their stripes point over the right shoulder." Although it doesn't explain why the Brits chose the left shoulder!
