If not, I thought I'd let anyone who is interested know about it. I think the majority of us are all guilty of taking stuff down the local tip which could be of use to other people & this site allows you to offer items completely free of charge. No monies change hands. If you go to the site & I'm sure you will find a group nearby, then all you have to do is click on United Kingdom & then click on the nearest area when that opens. You have to register but its all straightforward. You are then free to list offers or wanted items. http://www.freecycle.org/

It's a wonderful idea - I was introduced to it by my brother, who had a number of items left over when he moved; not new enough to sell at a boot sale or with a small ad, but perfectly servicable. On our local group I have seen offered & taken recently - part bags of cement, rolls of wallpaper, sand, crockery, beds, chairs, fridges, cookers, bedding, fancy dress, bags of childrens clothes, bags of adults clothes, plants, egg boxes, bubble wrap, sewing machine, office files, etc etc! I was a member for a while, but I dropped out because of the huge number of emails I was receiving, at least one for every transaction in my local group. This could be 80-90 per day. If the system could be web-site based i.e. you log in to view traffic, I would re-join.

Pete - viewing the items on offer by going to a web page is in fact an option. You should continue to receive important emails from the moderators. But often stuff is taken shortly after the email is sent, so you do risk missing out on good stuff!

as someone else has mentioned to you Pete1956 there is an option on the site not to receive the emails & if you look you could still be registered as a member but not get piles of 'unwanted' mail. It would just mean that you visit the freecycle site yourself to read any new messages. I hope this helps others with similar queries. I think the site is fantastic & like another posting have recycled loads of items in the last few months
