Have a portable dvd player which works from mains or car. Does anyone know if it's possible to buy a battery so you can use it standalone? Want to use it for the kids on camping hols.

Depends on the make and model - I think that most have batteries available as an accessory - I think that they only give about 2 and a half to 3 hours play per recharge though. Try googling the model of your dvd and see what you get.
