I have a Dell Dimension 3100 computer, operating Microsoft XP .

The current memory is only 512MB, I would like to increase this amount by purchasing a two piece memory kit.

I also wish to replace one CD reader with a DVD reader/player, and I also wish to purchase a USB portable Hard Drive.

How much should I increase the RAM to? I do not use the computer for games?

Would it be best to buy a portable DVD reader/player or replace the internal CD player?

What size portable hard drive should I buy, mainly to store Music and Photos?

Any help would be most gratefully received.

Ram is cheap so personally I would oik out the 512 and stick in 2GB, there's no point in having more. These nice people have an on-line scanner that will analyse your system and recommend the appropriate choices.

I would replace the CD drive with an internal multi-format DVD Writer - here's one for 18 quid:

Hard drive: generally speaking, all else being equal, the bigger the capacity of the drive the faster it is, so I'd just get the biggest I could afford - within reason :-)
you can increase the upto 4 gb but 1 gb is sufficient . you can add dvd player after adding the dvd player . installed the dvd player software.

you can increase the size of the new usb hard drive it depends upon you how much data do you want to store in the hard drive. your computer will support the hard drive and the dvd player.

for adding the ram check the size and the compatibility of the ram ot the processor and the motherboard.
