I am having real trouble finding clothes to fit my two sons aged 12 and 13. The town we live near has all the usual M&S, Primark, Topshop, BHS etc, but most of them go from kids clothes - age 11-12, straight to mens sizes small, medium, etc. I could get things from Next but only by mail-order however i don't want to start the whole catalogue thing, I just want to get them some nice jeans and tops for the winter, they are average height and not particularly label-aware so not too hard to please, I just can't find the flippin' clothes to fit!! All suggestions welcome!

Have you tried the sports shops, they do leisure wear (jeans etc) as well as sports clothes and will usually do youths sizes. I am thinking of JJB sports or the like. Do you not want to get anything by post, or do you just not want to have an account? If you don't mind getting by post, i get things for my kids from laredoute, which is a catalogue or on line, you can set up an account, but I just pay as and when, they do a specific range for teenagers, but it is mainly "named" goods rather than their own stuff.
Try ebay, get the measurements off the sellers, good quality clothing and half the price.
I had this problem when my son was this age too, I found that H & M were good for jeans and tops and as they do skater boy type clothes they were 'cool' to wear too also they didn't cost a fortune.
try select seconds in preston, swinton, farnworth, chorlton, and northwich.
they sell some american brands and they go up to 17/18 years before the adult sizes kick in.

Thanks for all the suggestions folks. Annie0000, thanks for the link - some really nice things on there and reasonably priced. My problem with mail order is that we live in quite a remote area and in the past when I've ordered stuff they either can't find us and I get irrate phonecalls from the delivery guys, or if no-ones at home they take the goods back to the depot which is 50 odd miles away! I think I'll put down my mum's address as she's in most days and would save a lot of hassle! Thanks again!!
You could also try Asda. Just bought the school uniforms there and they had age sizes upto 15.

If there's a Peacocks near you, they do some fairly good teenage boy clothes and at reasonable prices.
