I have never worked much since I left school, living mainly on benefits.
I have been offered a job, but the hours are 35 per week, with a 1 hour lunch break included, is this the average, as the hours seem a bit long?
I usually have three holidays per year, a month in Europe, two different countries and four weeks in the Far East in November.
Will I be allowed the same amount of time off, with pay, or do people have less holidays than this?
I would love to contribute more to society, but the thought of a full time job, really depresses me.
Your thoughts and advice, would be greatly appreciated, especially if it helps me, reach a decision.

Well I crack the whip and make my team work longer hours than that and it only takes 15 minutes to eat a sandwich, but I am lenient and let them have half an hour for lunch. Holidays are very much based on quantum meriut, although I do try ever so hard to strenuously advise them against taking leave as there would be so much left to be done when they return. If they are not dissauded then I use my authority not to sign them off.

I however am the boss so I show up ever few days in between playing golf, loitering on AB and making sure that the work gets done (by someone else). I have earned that status, so I guess you have to start at the bottom and work your way up to bone idle.

37- 40 hour weeks are the norm for full time. Some companies in engineering give 30 mins for lunch and allow Friday as a short day.

Holiday entitlement is 28 days including back holidays.

heres a thought, why not get a part time job to pay something back?

Surely if you find out how to work the system you could squeeze 4 holidays a year? It doesn't seem fair that someone who doesn't work only gets 3 holidays a year.
I realise that you probably have a massive flat screen telly to be watching to keep you occupied whilst not holidaying, but do try your best as my heart goes out to you - if you need and help, we're all on hand to assist.

Whats the point in working and paying your way these days when benefits are so easy to come by.

my husband works 70 hours per week and we are lucky to get a fortnight off a year

I suppose the hostile reaction, was to be expected, but I don't blame anyone for that.
My lifestyle is not extravagant and I only run a small car, which is over a year old, but it gets me about, so I'm not complaining.
I save as much as I can for my holidays, which bring me great enjoyment, but I feel, if I accept this job opportunity, it will spoil my freedom of choice, to continue with this.
All I am asking, is for people to consider my rights, as well.
