digital hearing aids

Hi Answerbankers Im not sure if im posting this in the correct topic but here goes. Does anyone know what the "in ear" digital hearing aides are like, we have heard that they only last 6 months, surely this cannot be right as they are around �500 each. Anyone tried or know of them He went to the Audiology department today and the dr says the in ear aides are fine but the audiologist says they are rubbish.Thanks in advance

There is no truth in the '6 months' report but I would advise a thorough examination before buying, as much seems to depend on the type of deafness. I have suffered 'gunfire' deafness since WWII and, in spite of first class treatment over many years, including much trialling with analogue and digital aids, nothing has helped me. Don't be persuaded by advertising into spending a small fortune. Stay, if you can, with the NHS although I'm surprised by the audiologist's statement. Was he a doctor?
I have worn 'in the ear' aids in trials for years. In the end there was obviously nothing wrong with the aids - just me.

rosiew,I have had a digital hearing aid outside of my left ear for five years and have had no problems,also completely deaf in my right ear.
As Northumbrian states,make an appointment with your local NHS Hearing Centre and speak to an Audiologist he or she will advise you.
Don't go private as my Audiologist told me there is no benefit of in the ear hearing aid will make no difference.
