Tesco meat

It s hard to believe that they would sell out of date food. I havent eaten meat from there since a program a few years ago showing old meat going back to the warehouse to be re-packaged, hiding the green bits.

I don't think it is so hard to believe really, I have bought some trifle sponges which were a year, a whole year out of date from there. one of the reasons I stopped doing my main weekly shopping there was because I kept finding things on the shelves which were out of date. I now shop at Morrisons and am having a similar experience there with their yoghurts and cooked meats being past the use before dates.

When I was young it was common for the shopkeeper to cut the green out of the bacon and cheese in front of you. At least you knew what you were getting.

He usually had a fag hanging out his mouth while he did it, too.

Nothing surprises me of Tesco's. I hate their politics, and hate the way they are taking over the World. I have not shopped there for years, and don't intend to. Stick to Asda.
I have never bought items that are past their sellby dates there, but I did pick some items off the shelves of Aldi recently.It's best to just be very careful what you are buying. I always buy from the back of the shelf, where they put the freshest, in order to make people buy the oldest stuff first.

A s for Ethel's post. I too remember our local grocer carving the ham with a fag stuck out of his mouth, and to cut the green bits off the cheeses and bacon. I think everyone's got too hygiene concious these days, and we lose our natural ability to fight bugs.

lerryngal - dismissing Tesco for 'taking over the world' is one thing.

But then to promote Asda is laughable. Asda is, of course, owned by Wal-Mart, the world's largest corporation by revenue, and the largest grocery store in the USA. It has branches in Mexico, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Peurto Rico, China and Japan.
It is criticised by many for it's low price sourcing policy (pays peanuts to suppliers)and the company is extremely anti-union.

I'd rather put my money in a British capitalist venture than a bigger American one.
