A friend recently purchased a coat from a small high street outlet at £379 which price was quoted by the shopkeeper. Upon getting the coat home she noticed a price tag £269. I have suggested she takes the coat back ASAP and claims a refund of the difference or failing that the whole cost and give the coat back - it has not been worn at all.

As long as friend has receipt to prove the actual paid price, then they shouldn't have a problem getting a price adjustment. If the shop refuses to oblige, then return the coat.

I'm curious though, how come the cashier didn't look at the tag for the price before ringing up the coat.
£379 for a coat?
No harm in asking for a refund - he may be lucky- but if it was clearly marked at £379 in the shop and he was happy to pay it then really I doubt he's got a leg to stand on legally.
I suppose he could return it if the shop will give a refund and then try to buy another one for £269

She didn't look at the label before purchasing and just accepted what the shopkeeper said - £379. It was only when back home and wrapping the coat for her hubby (Christmas present) that she noticed the label with the lower price.
Keep it as it is, with the receipt and original packaging, and take it all back unworn the first day the shop reopens after the holiday. If may be a genuine till error - seems a lot of difference not to have been spotted by the buyer, though!
Long shot but could some one else have swapped the tag and walzed of with a 379 coat for 269
