Have just been to the local laundrette and the cost of using the tumble dryers has gone up by 50% - now only 2 minutes per 20p whereas up to last time (less than 2 weeks ago) it was 3 minutes for the same money.

How does that compare with those where you live? It seems an extortionate amount.

Surely, it works out cheaper to buy a tumble dryer in the long run?

I live in a bedsit, there are no laundry facilities here.
50p for 6.5 mins here in Suffolk.
I do have a tumble dryer but some times I need a bigger one for things like quilts.
Last time I had to use a launderette it was 20p for 3 minutes (in Bristol), I'm not sure if this has gone up since but would not be surprised as waqsh prices seemed to increase very regularly.
I agree it is extortionate at 20p for 2 minutes.
I had to use the laundromat for a few months-it was first 20p=2min35sec,
a further £1gave me another 20 minutes.

Unfortunately there is no bonus for using £1 coins instead of 5 X 20p.

I guess it's just the first instance of a price rise in the current economic climate that I have noticed (don't have a car so don't have to buy petrol).
Lucky you bibblebub - I wish I could get rid of ours but we are a little bit remote so do need it.

I walk everywhere that's up to 8 miles / 2 hours walk away so don't even use the buses.
I use a service wash, so I can't give you a direct comparison but the following might give you a guide to the prices around here (Ipswich):

I usually get to the laundrette once every four weeks, with a couple of very big bags full to the brim with washing. I collect it the following day, washed, dried, with all of the socks paired together, and with everything neatly folded and organised into separate polythene bags for shirts, socks, undies, etc.

The charge last time was £15.60, which is about normal.

Chris

PS: JimJools - Is that price for the laundrette in Stowmarket? I use Spinclean, off the Wherstead Road in Ipswich
