I also prefer the two needle cast on method - but another tip - I usually use the K1 P1 version rather than all Knit which gives a nice springy (?) edge

And you more experienced ones can share your tips and I can show my new efforts. Have just started a little bolero for baby yesterday. But for 6-12 month size so she can wear it in the autumn/winter.

Smowball - It makes a neater edge if you cast on using the thumb method. Using two needles makes an open, lacy sort of edge. Don't know why this should be, but it just is.
I can't do that. My thumbs are weird tho. Manly hands I s'pose.
Casting on, I put the needle between the stiches, if that makes sense, rather than create a stitch on it's own.
I'd completely forgotten how good it is to create something.
