Salt dough I think

When I was younger we used to make christmas tree decorations out of, I think it was called salt dough basically its like dough but then you cook it it goes rock hard and you can then decorate it however you want and it never goes off. Does anyone have the ingredients or how to make it?

The basic recipe is 2 cups of plain flour, 1 Cup of Salt and 1 cup of water. Mix to form a dough and away you go.

It was very popular in the 1980s when I was a Beaver Scout leader. I think it's fallen out of favour of late due to its high salt content and the danger of children eating it (apparently such a high salt content could kill a small child).

How come all the fun things we did as children are now dangerous? I always teased my mom that it was a miracle we made it ti adulthood.LOL

When we were small, I remember my mother letting us make shapes out of plaster of paris which we found in the cellar. We used to mix it with water and tip it into "moulds" (the inner lining out of chocolate boxes). When it was dry, we used to paint patterns and faces onto each shape. Can you still buy plaster of paris??
