i want to frame a cross stitch picture that my nan did before she had a stroke. I thought it would make a nice pressy for my mum. Do i just put it in an ordinary frame? If so, how do I stop the stitches from squashing? Or do I have to buy a special kind of frame? If so, what kind and where from? i would appreciate any advice, x
Put the embroidery on a stretcher (as used with oil paintings)
This can then be framed with a liner to separate the glass from the art work.
Sometimes all is needed is to stitch the art work to a stiff card and mount as before with a liner
M y mum use to do cross stitch and she had hers done at the local framing shop, its not an easy process and you are better with the professionals doing it especially if its a gift and you want it to last and not warp ect. g
my mother framed one that I did for her recently and she took it to a picture framers to be done to stop the edges from fraying. also, if you get it framed with a picture mount (or cardboard border) around the picture, then this will stop the stitches from being squashed.
