If Charles and Camilla get married, when he becomes King, she will (have the right to) be called Queen, then how come Prince Phillip isn't called King??

Apparently, the constitution allows Camilla to be known as Queen Camilla, although they tried to keep it quiet - being in enough grief already!

As I understand it, the King's wife is The Queen, if he is the ruling monarch  but The Queen's husband is not the king if she is the ruling monarch - he becomes Prince Consort.

They thought this rule would apply to Camilla, but no, she gets the whole nine yards - danger ...incoming....!

because a king takes priority
King is higher than a queen and as Elizabeth is the ruling monarch - Philip may not outrank her. But Camilla won't be very important it's only a courtesy title - Charles will be King.
What's wrong with Camilla becomimg queen , it's no worse than it would have been if Diana had become queen.
The biggest differences seem to be the number of men each one has had , and the ability to manipulate the press and public that one had but the other doesn't.
I thought however, that strictly speaking Camilla would be Queen Consort - in fact I believe other Queens who were Queens because their husband was the King, were in fact Queen Consort, not reigning Queen as the present Queen.

Yeah I dont think that Mary I Tudor is a relevant example. Mary insisted that Philip should be King, and told her advisers to get on with it. It was agreed in the marriage treaty that Phililp should be king and then when Mary died, he would not.

He probably did er offer himself to Elizabeth but she would not erm play ball.

Philip had his own problems. He said of his heir Philip III that is of course fay lee pay ter therro - God did not grant me a son capable of governing my kingdoms, but this last one had the good sense to allow the Duke of Lerma to run the spanish empire

Thanks - I thought reigning Queen did not sound right - it sounds like raining!  So it's Regnant Queen!
