Mom/Mum

Just seen a suggestion from Chaffinch on an Animals and Nature thread that Midlanders use 'mom' instead of mum; I'm from the Midlands and have never noticed this; definitely not in writing and acn't say I've heard anyone pronounce it this way, so just wondering if anyone else has? Also; apart from America do any other English speaking countries use mom instead of mum?

Yep, I'm from the Midlands and it has always been 'mom'.

ive seen them use Mom, and also up north as Mam.

My mum is called Mum by all of us kids, but when she signs cards she always writes Mam.

I'm originally from Leicester and never heard anyone say 'mom'. Some people said 'mam', but most people I know used 'mum'.

I always thought 'mom' was American.

Ah fair enough; I'm in Warwickshire so maybe it's more a West Midlands (as in the county) thing?

i've heard mum or mam occasionly not mom though, i thought that was more american as well

My cousins from Wolverhampton always used Mom but for me in Somerset it's Mum.

I was born and brought up in Leicester and I never heard anyone use the word mom, it was mam or mum.

I'm from Wiltshire where it's mum but living in the West Midlands now and it's definitely Mom round here.

I too was born in Leicester and spent some years in Warwickshire. Never heard 'Mom' being used, but have heard 'Mam' further north. You learn something every day.
