Howard Hughes inherited money and whilst his demons took over his life as he got older, his shrewd business brain (engineering, in the main) helped him increase that fortune.

He wasn't insane, as such.

Howard Hughes: nobody knows whether he was sane or not since few saw him. He too inherited millions and ultimately became reclusive, which is not an insane thing for the rich to do. It sounds rather as if he had some sort of OCD; but again I don't think that amounts to insanity.

Money doesn't make you better , nicer , or smarter. It makes you richer. You can clutch at straws to justify this , but at the end of the day all you will have is a handful of straws and still wont have convinced me.

er, no, Ratter, that's what I said all along: "Society is based on making money; if he's figured out how to make it work for him, he's sane." You don't get rich, *by your own efforts*, without being smart. It doesn't necessarily make you "nicer" or "better". It doesn't make your money "better", whatever that means.

If you think I'm wrong, just give me some examples of people who have made themselves rich while being insane. I can't think of any; can you?

jno, my point was not all intelligent or smart people just want to make money, life isnt always about wealth. So just because someone has made more money than me that does not mean he is smarter than me.
