I looking to holiday for 2 weeks in Croatia in September this year, can anyone please recommend the best area to go nice resort close to beach,amenities and self catering please at a reasonable price. We are hoping for a nice 3/5 star...

if you want sandy beaches, aim for the south - further north they are mostly (not always) pebbly or rocks.

There's much to see in Croatia but I would recommend Dubrovnik. If you want to get nice deals check out TripAdvisor so you can compare the prices.
