Well, an interesting spin on the more modern system of should you go dutch!
Interesting defence and am intrigued to see if he gets anywhere with it, somehow I doubt it!
Interested to see others' views, if on a date, men, do you expect or want to pay for a first date or expect the bill to be shared and, ladies, what are your views?

I wonder if it's more difficult in the days of internet dating where people are meeting for the very first time on a first date and could be meeting a number of different people. I always think men who internet date must spend a lot of money!
I like your style Octavius ;) I baulked when reading the prices of the drinks though, wonder what they were drinking! That's London prices for you!

I've long accepted it's a woman's world and that I pay unless they offer: and even then I'd feel awkward about accepting the offer until the relationship was a steady one.
In a fair world an mutually agreed evening out ought to be expected to be, and actutally be jointly funded (birthday present or suchlike excepted) but if the guy wants to create a good impressin he can not afford not to lavish whatever on whoever is the new individual of their attention. One doesn't improve the chances of continued interest and a second date if one looks stingy. And all my training as a kid means I "instinctively" don't want to be anyway. One wants to give to the individual of one's affections.
