Anansie?

When I was little (between 5 and 7) I remember listening to a story on tape at school about an anansie.  I'm sure it was something like a spider that changed into a man but after a quick look on google all it brings up is Skunk Anansie!  Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I've heard of the 'Anansie' (sometimes 'Anansi' etc) spider stories. They're a form of folk-tale / myth common in the Caribbean, though I think they have West African origins.

Try filtering your Google search by putting 'skunk' with a minus sign in front ( -skunk ) in your keywords - it will then ignore any site with skunk in it.

(Then hope that all the 'Anansie' sites don't tell of the famous story about the spider meeting a skunk !!!)

I remeber reading this at school too - was it something like Brere Anasi. There was also a Brere Rabbit and variuos other animals. Brere is French for 'brother' so this may give you a starting point.

Actually, 'frere' is French for brother - brer comes from the southern US states, popularised by Uncle Remus in the Brer Rabbit stories.
