Something to do with a dish called Scouse I believe. I think its a potato soup.
'Lobscouse' was a mixture of vegetables and biscuit - with meat if they were lucky! - commonly served to seamen in past times. Presumably, it is the long connection with the sea enjoyed by the great seaport of Liverpool that caused the shortened version of the word to become associated with Liverpudlians in particular.  In a similar way, British seamen were nicknamed limeys'.
nobody else wanted to do it, I suppose
Lobscouse is a popular dish in North Wales as well

Scouse is basically meat stew.

They used to make a pan of it and just add to it as and when.

usually meat, potato, onion and carrot, but anything available really. mopped up with bread.

My infany school had scouse on the menu once a week, back in the days when you got a proper hot meal every day.

many houses in liverpool were built by north wales brickies so the lobsgows(welsh translation) was imported to liverpool by them.
