Mr Erdogan said foreign nations should stay out of Turkish affairs, adding: "This nation has the right to determine our own destiny."

Does that mean that Turkey isn't interested in joining the EEC anymore !

I think your most probably right, jourdain.
Yeas it does.

Turkey is split between reformists who are west leaning who want to join the EU, and Islamists who want Turkey to lead the Muslim world.

Erdogan is an Islamist elected and Prime Minister since 2003. He has never really been interest in EU membership.

This weekend the Islamists who don't want to join the EU have clearly won. So in answer to the question, Turkey will not be joining the EU anytime soon. That isn't really news, that has been the state of play since 1996.
they were interested back about the turn of the century with a more progressive, pro-western government. But the EU weren't interested (the French and Greeks would have vetoed it). Since then Islamists have been voted into power; and why would they waste their time knockng on a locked door?

So they're in the same position as Britain: don't want to be in the club.
Tony....Turkey has very little chance of getting into the EU. The events of the last few days hasn't improved that chance one little bit.

The countries human rights record alone would prevent them joining.
Well, the Turks are due the chance of a reconsideration come 2019.
Turks arent Arabs by the way
so God knows ( ha pun intended ) why they want to lead the muslim world
unless it is dreams of going back to the Good Old Days

and the arabs certainly dont look north to Turkey for leadership
[ bit like Corbyn really ]
I know someone on hols there..not allowed out of hotel..trapped...can't get home....
Perhaps the Turks would like to do some trade with us then.

We could FM out our Jails to them. They know how to runa a prison.
I never used to have a very high opinion of turks; especially I never thought they were at all businesslike. But now I do have to admire their efficiency in getting those lists of names together ! Thousands of names, of enemies and potential enemies of the people, and almost overnight ! Amazing how efficient they have suddenly become. But they couldn't have been making up these lists for a decade or more, ready for just such an opportunity, could they ?
That would be far too cynical of me.
Wouldn't it.
My friend's son-in-law is Turkish and runs his own business here in Scotland. He is very worried about his family back in Turkey.
