Its amazing what records/story's they dig up about peoples lives, and some with dark secrets.
Today, this gay man who was in the Navy, had to change his name, as if he was found out, he would be jailed & dishonourably discharged.
How things have changed!

They were trying to track down the evidence that one of the sailors was gay and they guy was hounded out of the service. It was really distasteful and cruel and horrible to watch.
The police men were just doing their job but the gay guy had done nothing wrong regarding his military job.
I tried to track down the documentary a few weeks back but got side tracked.

gay men in the Navy - I can hardly believe it !
// a few years back watching a documentary thing on TV. It was the military police in one of the services. They were trying to track down the evidence that one of the sailors was gay and the guy was hounded out of the service. //
this was the tail end of the time when it was lawful to fire someone for being gay. In America there was also the mother truckers case - the delivery driver of Tootsie Roll/ weeties was found to be a cross dresser in his spare time , and it was declared lawful to fire him for activities in his spare time.
the gay in the programme of 15 y ago was gonna be a test case in the european court but it didnt run because he had been forced to resign and had not been fired. ( other cases were selected instead )
one of his "mates" had anonymously rung p the naval police and reported seeing him in a gay pub in Devonport. HIs locker was searched without permission nor notice
eveyone agreed there was nothing wrong with his work and there had been no complaints within the service
O ! those were the Good Old Days ! how I miss them !

When I was in the Royal Navy some 40 years ago this happened to 2 gay sailors at the base I was on. They were dishounourably discharged from the navy for having a relationship, not sure if they were jailed too. This was done in front of the entire ships company. Horrible thing for them to have to go through.
