All I know Emmie is that most people get turned down and lots then get it on appeal. I also know that that are organisations that will help you to get it. I presume you are under retirement age. I never applied because I worked until retirement age, which was silly of me because I wasn't fit to work. I then found out that you cant claim benefits accept for attendance allowance after retirement age, but if you claim before retirement, the disability element carries on a it carries on. My husband can't get carers allowance because he is over retirement age!
Tony V. It's a rule that makes no sense, quote:
"Carer's Allowance and State Pensions
While there is no upper age limit for claiming Carer's Allowance, you cannot receive the full amount of both Carer's Allowance and your State Pension at the same time. This is because Carer's Allowance and State Pensions are classed as 'overlapping benefits'."
What in effect this I means is that you can claim it, be accepted but not get it. But it can mean that you can then tie it in with pension credits, which in our case means that we don't get anything because we don't qualify for pension credits! Our combined state pensions take us above the limit for getting pension credits.
