Does anyone know what the policy is on stopping and turning people back now?

Youngest has a few days leave and wants to come and visit but is concerned that she will be stopped and told to go back to London on her way here. Obviously she will not be looking for accommodation as she will stay with me. But she does not want to have the cost and time of driving quite a distance and then being told to return to London.

Please does anyone know what the policy is now? We have a lot of visitors down here at the moment and I suppose they are mostly second home owners. Can't see this as being any different from staying with family.

Hi LJ, I believe you can have a visitor but they cant stay overnight ?
Correct Bobbi.
they should only enter the house to get to the back yard or go to the bog.

Ridiculous in my mind but thems the rules at the mo.
People can travel anywhere and meet outside. she will not be stopped and turned back. Its entirely up to you to consider the risk to you or your household of youngest staying over.
"but is concerned that she will be stopped and told to go back to London on her way here." - but not concerned that she might bring an infection to your household?
My daughter said they hope to visit soon...also from London. But I know she's cautious, so I'd not expect it ...officially or otherwise...for another month or so.

I should have said that I don't think she will bring the virus with her as she is very aware of infection as she has already suffered quite badly and also is hyper careful on cleaning everywhere she goes and everything she buys. Of course she would have to stay.

If the virus is going to be spread down here it is more likely to be from some of the visitors to the area who are starting to invade us.
you asked about the "policy" and the rules say no overnight stays or entering houses without a good reason. The decision remains yours. People are allowed to drive as far as they wish.

Thanks to you all for your replies. As she would be driving over 360 miles to visit of course she would stay. I am not worried about that. The reason is that she is coming to check up on her aged mother. I will let her make up her own mind and not say anything to influence her either way. I should add that cottage is in middle of a field in the middle of a farm and our only neighbours are sheep and cows. Not too much influence from outside world.
Whether you abide by the rules or not is entirely your choice'
Whatever she/ you decide, I wish you both well, I know how worried you were about her having had the virus( you think) perhaps paying for one of the tests to see whether she has might help in the decision, good luck though
This is exactly the attitude which causes the virus to spread. It'll be alright because we're being careful - never mind the 360 mile car journey with the stops for toilet/fuel etc and the hugs you'll be having because nobody can see you.
Bobbi, the tests should not be being sold at present. https://www.babylonhealth.com/coronavirus/covid-19-antibody-test

The choice is hers. She has already had the virus and had 3 weeks from work. However she is designated a key worker and also works shifts so I am reluctant to ring her in case she is sleeping.

btw until very recently she was providing all her own ppe (she is still providing her won things as the provided kit is not considered adequate or sufficient) and making sure everything she came/comes into contact with was/is sterilised.

Please I just wanted to know if it was within the guidelines to travel and stay.

No, it is not within the guidelines to stay, as it clearly states in the link I provided.
Oh I thought I’d seen another poster say they’d bought one online woof?
LJ, I’m sure you’ll make your own mind up in this and the upside is you will see your girl

I'm leaving the choice entirely up to her.

She was on duty last night so is most likely sleeping now.
Where are all those MPs filmed queuing to vote yesterday staying the night? Many must be at their London properties - i.e their second homes. Thought this was agin the rules, no?
Bobbi, I think the suspension is recent. Around 3 weeks ago you could buy them.
brainiac, it is permitted to move between two places to sleep if your job requires it and has been throughout the emergency.
