Stanley Johnson has applied to become a French citizen (his mother was born in Versailles). He's doing this "so that his grandchildren can live and work in the EU after Brexit".
What a shame Stanley's son Boris Johnson has removed these rights from the rest of us, and from our children and grandchildren.
Still, at least they will have "blue passports" and chlorinated chicken to boost their spirits as they contemplate their much more limited horizons.
FGS it's the nation that voted not Boris - and do you know British people lived and worked in Europe long before we joined EU and will continue to do so. The sour grapes from the vote really should be dried up old raisins by now.
I wish people would get their facts right before posting. Boris -or even the Nation-has not voted away the rights of UK citizens to work in the E.U. It will just go back to how it was before -they will have to apply for a Visa or Green Card.
Remember this is the person who did a flit, from an address in London,..... to appear several hundred miles away at another property in the South West,.... in the early stages of lockdown! HEAVENS!
I suppose we should be lucky that he did NOT feed the news to have an Optician's appointment in Barnard Castle! Like his son, he seems to be teflon coated.
Has he got it yet? This was first reported back in March in a book written by.........a daughter......who just may need the sales...or is the "in deep end dance" in need of a bit of a nuisance headline?
As reported a few months ago.
""A source close to the family believes Stanley has applied so that his grandchildren can live and work in the bloc post-Brexit. When first asked about obtaining a French passport last year, he said: “It’s a nice thought. These things are always among the options — members of my family might be [interested].” ""
What a crock of rubbish. My wife still has her work permit listed 'interpreter ' when she worked in Spain as a eighteen year old. That was 1970 . She is late 60s now and remains incredulous of the naive nonsence the dim witted come out with about brexit. 'Will my mobile work again in Ibeefa?" . "Will I never go to aya Nappa ever again? "
Pathetic.
Maggiebee, British people lived and worked in what are now EU countries long before the EU existed - and they will continue to do so. Educate yourself.
My Grandmother was a Murphy, hardly spoke English, lived in Wales and spoke Welsh and Breton. I was told I could apply for a Southern Irish passport on the basis of that family tie. I suppose if the 'tea shop' gave me one I could later apply for citizenship. Charlie Haughey was the Taoiseach back in 1981 and he mentioned that.
// I was told I could apply for a Southern Irish passport on the basis of that family tie//
erm no soch place as they might say in the Republic
altho Lloyd George - the old goat - concluded a treaty with the House of Commons of southern Ireland - 1922, it was remarked even at the time there was no such body and no such place
and whats wrong with being a bog trotter if it gives you free access to the EU ?

oh I have my monuments pass for the Muhafzah of Luxor from 1978 - will that get me any rights?
[Muhafazah. ... A muḥāfaẓah (Arabic: محافظة [muˈħaːfaðˤah]; pl. محافظات muḥāfaẓāt [muħaːfaˈðˤaːt]) is a first-level administrative division of many Arab countries, It is usually translated to "governorate".]
all sounds a bit fishy to me, and that will be one of the key platforms that it comes down to - the UK the sole fish in its place...or a cooperative shoal of sprats (mis-spelt) swimming happily in common waters. Wait for when Iceland invades....
