It depends on what you mean by 'alone', I suppose. Do you mean that there might be creatures that look like humans? Or creatures that crawl around like crabs? Or maybe flying things? I'd like to know, but I'd also like to keep my distance from them, whatever they might be. Better the devil (or creature) you know, than the devil you don't.
we may not be the only living thinks in the universe but the probability is that we will never meet any others - so it really amounts to the same thing.
Carl Sagan said if aliens came to earth, by dead reckoning there remains the risk that they would do what modern man has done everytime it encountered a new society on earth. Take from them everything we find valuable, the Incas gold. the N.American land, slaves from Africa. Etc Etc
