There are good local bus services into the old city, and to places like Cavtat where there are pleasant strolls around the two peninsulas.
The Elafiti islands of Kolocep, Sipan and Lopud are easily reached by excursions which run daily in season, and this trip is highly recommended.
If you like walking, could I suggest you get the Ramblers Holidays brochure 01707 331133; they feature a week in Dubrovnik and a separate week in Split (see page 81).
