Do lawyers in the uk work with a license? Do they get disbarred if they lose it? Or is this only in America?

The Law Society is the organisation which licences solicitors ,and certainly those who behave criminally or dishonourably can be struck off.
As Carol Anne says, the Law Society is the regulatory body for solicitors. The equivalent professional body which regulates the conduct of barristers is the Bar Council.
