It's really happening. I think it is a great honour for a great footballer and son of Northern Ireland.

As Arty says it's really happening - it was in the paper & on the news well over a week ago.

I will apologise now cause no doubt this will upset some of you but a great footballer he may have been but that was very short lived! The rest of his life was a mess. I lost any respect for a man who recieved a new liver only to continue abusing it. I know its a disease but come on. someone else could well be alive today had he not got it and then selfishly destroyed it within a few years.. Sorry if i sound harsh and i can appreciate peoples high regard for him during a brilliant career, but it annoys me when people press a self destruct button, especially when they have a talent like his. He not only hurt himself but anyone who loved him too.He certainly would have got a damn site more help than other people in his situation who HAVE managed to beat this disease! As for naming an airport after him, there must be many, many more deserving people in Ireland!

I totally agree with jules too.

George Best was quite a handsome chappie & a great footballer in his time - but naming an airport after him is ridiculous! As jules says, there are many more deserving people, but they probably wouldn't want an airport named after them anyway!

i thought i was gonna get some abuse for my opinions then. I know he was popular but talk about putting someone on a pedestool.Now john Lennon airport is a different matter. He deserved to have that accolade! He was a truely great man and i feel worthy of such a tribute.

Mr Smudge cooks a delish Sunday roast - I do too, but he loves cooking, so I leave him to it on Sundays! My friends really envy me! I'm sure you'll enjoy your pork lunch.

well, like they say, different strokes for different folks! You are a lucky lady. Mr Smudge is a diamond! i had mine done for mothers day by my hubby and 14yr old son, however, i ended doing most of it myself. Never mind, the thought was there. Enjoy it!!! p.s this site is very addictive!

That was nice for you on Mother's Day - but I know what you mean - I usually end up tidying the kitchen aftwards, although he does most of it as he goes along!

i think to call Lennon a toss pot is a bit extreme, even if you don't appreciate his musical genius. there will never be another like him! I am interested as to why you think he is a tosspot anyway. Ok, he did drugs, then so do most of them and certainly that was the case in the 60's.

not even in the same league as regards to abusing his body. he never needed someone to die to give him a chance of living only to ****** it up! i can't agree with you about his music but thats your opinion and you are certainly entitled to it.We can't all like the same thing. I have never taken drugs in my life and his music still sounds good to me ( 20 years after his death) at the hands of somebody else! As you can guess, i greatly admire the man!

Then theres Barry McGuigan, world champion, nice guy and still working. The only headlines he made were because of his sporting skills. They'll never name an airport after him: not controversial enough?

Sorry folks but for the life of me I can't understand why an airport should be named after an alcoholic, especially one who abused a liver transplant which could have saved the life of somebody else who really would have valued it. I think we place far too high a value on "celebrity" these days instead of valueing all the unsung heros and heroines who work in hospitals, care homes and do low-paid but necessary jobs without whom the rest of us could not exist.
