Hi, I am going to an 80's themed fancy dress party in just over a week and need to sort some kind of costume out. Does anyone have any suggestions? Something nice and easy to throw together or find would be nice! Thanks in advance all. Diolch.

4getmenot had a great 80s costume for my 30th birthday party.

She went as a rubik cube.

get a large square box and cut arm and head holes and then paint the squares on.

She then just wore black clothes underneath.

Great idea, thanks!
Dont paint squares on, what I did was got a large box, plate size hole for head, side plate for arms. Then I used black electrical tape and put this round the edges and then put four lines on each side of box to make base for cubes. Then buy coloured card (red, blue, green, yellow) and white paper and cut squares to fit rounding off the corners of the squares. I just wanted something a bit different to the normal 80s pop stars. So I went as the messed up cube and my mate went as the solved one. :-) Everyone complimented me on it, just not so good when you fall over :-) If you wondered that was my sis above.
And they dont take long I've made three now and have got it down to a t :-)

Dont tell everyone 4getmenot :)

Being related to a rubik cube isnt something i want the whole world to know about.

I know how you made it, was just trying to simplify matters for boyo.

Do you know what....unless there's an even better idea...I might just do the rubik cube idea!! Thanks guys!
Cant get better than that. Thats original :-)

Would be interested to hear any better ideas. I have a friend whos also having an 80s party later in the year

I've never been a fan of looking too goofy. If I were to go to an 80's themed fancy dress party I would do my own version of Modonna. A short poofy dress with crinalin underneath. A big red sash around my waist. Fish nets with bright red stilletos. Big big big hair - teased to the fullest. Blue eye shadow, pink blush with sharp cheek bones, black eyeliner, red lipliner with red lipstick. Lots of Glitter, bangles, fish net long gloves with lace around the top, big earings, and last but not least RED nail polish ;)

Our other sister went to party as Madonna.

She wore black hotpants and stuck 2 cones of card onto a bra. Mind you she is a size 6 so could get away with showing off her body.

Thanks for the Madonna suggestions....slight problem though....I'm a bloke!! Although not a problem for many people these days!! He he!
If you a bloke Mr T. My mate shaved his head into a mohicon, covered his face and arms in brown make-up stuck a denim waste coat on. And then used old xmas tree gold trimming bead things as his jewellery.
Or Flava Flave ( I Think) got a big wall clock and hung it round his neck.
boyo bach- lol sorry man! Ok then don't do the Modonna thing. I would definetly go for a "Skid Row" "Aerosmith" look. So the first thing you have to buy is an 80's wig, and tight jeens (get the tight jeens from a "hand-me down" or Thrift store). Short jeen jacket, a ripped half- tshirt. ooohhh your gonna look HOT!

I was going to suggest something, but the thought of mullet hairstyles, sparkly suit-jackets-with-the-sleeves-pushed-up, leg-warmers, and "Frankie says.." T-shirts brought me out in a cold sweat !!

Question Author
Thanks, great suggestions. At the moment the rubik cube is the front runner I think! I was thinking of turning up (not as a rubik cube....think of the complications) on....roller skates!!!!! Yes that's skates NOT blades!! Although 8 wheels + lots of drinks + 2 unstable legs = well you see where I'm going here!! ;-)
How about dressing up as a pac-man or don johnson from miami vice?
You'd also have to do up an old shoe box to look like the giant mobile phones thatwere around then. I wonder what happened to my old Panasonic brick?!?
