What do you call the material flap on the back of a tropical soldiers' cap to protect their necks from the sun?

I think the flap could be called a "snood," which is what steelworkers call the flap on the back of their neck to protect themselves from sparks or drops of molten metal.
I think they are called legionnaires hats as they are similar to those worn by the French Foreign Legion.
