Bonnie Scotland?
I'm planning a trip to watch some West Brom friendlies that have been arranged in July. They are playing Kilmarnock,Motherwell, and Dunfermline.
However I'm a little alarmed at the apparent hostility shown by the Scots towards the English especially in the sport, and world cup catergories.
Are these places safe,as I would like to take my children, and make a holiday out of it.
Thanks.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I live not far from Motherwell and I've got family down Kilmarnock way and i think you should be fine. having said that I'm not English or a football fan.Maybe a good idea not to wear your 'I love England' t-shirt though. You'll get idiots whatever part of Britain you go to . If you're friendly people will be friendly back.
There's some good things to see round here too. How old are your family? I could give you some pointers on places to visit.
you will find more unsafe areas of london than you will in scotland!!! its not like if we hear an english accent we will call on our kilted friends to run you out of the country!!! far from it! if you come through to edinburgh you will hear more english accents than scottish ones! scotland is a beautiful country with friendly people and you and your family will love it.
hope you have a lovely holiday!
xx
p.s the "hostility" is mainly aimed at the media, not the english people!!
I sincerely hope this post was made in jest???!!!
As has been posted already, most of the bad press we are receiving re the England World Cup thang is being made by English publications!!
Whilst few of us would actually support the English team, it doesn't mean we'll all be waiting for you at the border Claymores drawn :)
I'm sure you and your family will have a wonderful time up here in the Frozen North, the scenery is beautiful and the people very friendly.
Badlass
I've lived here for the last 36 of my 54 years although I still think of myself of English.
Last July I went to a Hearts v Boro (my team) friendly and thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of Boro and Hearts fans in the pub before and after and everyone got on really well. Why shouldn't they?
Of course the Scots (most of them) don't support England at the World Cup - but why should they?
Lots of lovely places to see, friendly folk - sounds like an ideal excuse for a holiday.
Thanks for all your answers.I know I may sound daft to some of you,but we were concerned about venturing into Scotland. There just seems a lot of hostility between both sides on the answerbank.
Maxximus we have never been to Scotland before, the nearest was probably Sunderland!
Thanks for the offer of places to see yinyang,we have 2 children aged 9 and 7.The games are on the 20th,23rd and 25th so we have some time to fill.
Thankyou.
Glad to help, boing.
The Glasgow Science centre is worth a lookfor sure. I think you'll be up just after Kelvingrive museum reopens. It should be great - dinosaurs, a spitfire, a star wars stormtrooper and the return to it's original home of Dali's 'Crucifixtion of St. John of the cross'. Just across the road from Kelvingrove is the Transport Museum, which is a lot more intersting that it might sound. All these things are Glasgow city centre.Oh, there's also the Tall Ship.
In Ayrshire there's The Big Idea where your kids can have a go at being inventors. Also lots of great beaches and parks.
Here ends this presentation by the Scottish Tourist Board! If I can think of anything else I'll let you know.
