Kids now reached school age - so forced to holiday July or August . Neeed to find somewhere we aren't going to fry but that has beaches and close to a decent town . I don't want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere . Also no answers promoting the wonders of holidaying in England please.

Ostend is very family-friendly. See here:

Copenhagen has some great beaches just along the coast (and, of course, the attractions of Tivoli).

Malmo has good beaches and there are more nearby, both in Sweden and over the Oresund bridge in Denmark.

All of those places are busy towns or cities with plenty to do in the area.

How about Wales then aidansmum??!! You can't beat the Gower peninsula for beaches and it's very close to Swansea.
